BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe, non-surgical neurotoxin used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles for a natural, healthy look. Looking your best can be a real confidence booster, but that doesn’t mean looking permanently surprised, stretched or frozen. Healthy adults don’t want to hide from life after 18, but there’s no need to look stressed all the time.
Frown lines between the eyes, thought lines across the forehead, and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and nose can create an appearance of fatigue no matter how good you feel. BOTOX® can give you a face that reflects how you feel inside by smoothing out the lines to rejuvenate your image. New Creation Medicosmetic Centre also offers safe neurotoxins such as Xeomin® and Dysport®.
History of Success
BOTOX® has long been a trusted therapeutic choice for non-cosmetic use. Its wrinkle-smoothing properties were discovered by chance. One inquisitive physician, a Canadian ophthalmologist, used injections of BOTOX® to treat ophthalmic conditions and noticed how it also helped to smooth away wrinkles. Ten years of research and development followed, and in April 2001, BOTOX® Cosmetic was cleared for use in Canada for patients with frown lines.
Over ten years ago, the Canadian government approved BOTOX® (Botulinum toxin type A) for the treatment of ophthalmic disorders associated with muscle overactivity such a misalignment and contractions of the eyes and eyelids. Since then, it has also received approval to relieve a variety of conditions involving hyperactive muscles – including cerebral palsy in children. Its effectiveness in enabling these patients to resume healthy, daily activity is astonishing – with minimal side effects, all temporary and reversible.
How It Works
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable treatment derived from a purified protein. It is manufactured under strict quality control standards and then injected into a hyperactive muscle as a neuromodulator. It will block the nerve impluse from reaching that muscle without affecting the sensory nerves. So, the target muscle relaxes, smoothing out the wrinkles caused by repeated contractions.
By relieving hyperactivity, BOTOX® gives the face a relaxed, refreshed appearance. The procedure is so simple and quick that patients often do it on their lunch hour. More than two million women and men in North America have used BOTOX® to eliminate tension that misrepresents them.
A tiny amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected, very precisely, into the muscles
being treated. Discomfort is minimal, and no sedation or anaesthetic is required. You can resume normal activities immediately. You can even drive yourself home or back to the office. Some patients experience a slight temporary redness at the injection site, but this can be covered with make-up. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic usually last three to four months. After several treatments, the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic may begin to last longer.
Natural, Rested and Refreshed
The most common question new patients ask is, “Will BOTOX® make me look fake or frozen?” Dr. Kelada-Sedra always recommends a conservative dose to create a natural, relaxed and alert appearance. By discussing your personal concerns and goals, she determines the right dose and injection technique for you. The treatment only relaxes the muscle beneath the frown line at the injection site, so the other elements of facial expression remain active. It also has no effect on the sensory nerves, so you will have normal feeling in the treated area.
How can I find out if I am a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
There are a few restrictions regarding BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. Patients who are pregnant or nursing, or have a neurologic disease should not be treated. BOTOX® Therapeutic
BOTOX® Therapeutic can offer a solution to debilitating conditions such as migraines, tension headaches and excessive sweating. By solving these problems, patients can gain a higher quality of life through quick, non-invasive BOTOX® treatments.
Hyperhidrosis: Excessive Sweating
Millions of people suffer from excessive sweating in various parts of the body including the face, hands, feet or underarms (axilla). Although high temperatures or stress can increase perspiration, they don’t cause hyperhidrosis. It may be an inherited trait that stops the body from properly regulating its temperature, or it may be a symptom of other conditions including anxiety disorders, thyroid malfunction, nerve damage and menopause. Hyperhidrosis can also occur as a side effect of a medication. Until now, excessive sweating has been difficult to control. Health Canada has approved the use of BOTOX® Therapeutic to treat this issue.
How It Works
BOTOX® Therapeutic is a highly purified, naturally occurring protein that is derived from the Clostriduim Botulinum bacteria. Unlike topical treatments, it targets sweating at its source. With tiny injections, the BOTOX® Therapeutic is delivered into the specific glands responsible for the sweating. It blocks the release of a chemical that signals the perspiration response. In clinical studies, 95% of patients with hyperhidrosis that was severe enough to interfere with their daily lives experienced the benefits of BOTOX® Therapeutic after just one week. Their sweating was reduced by an average of 83%. BOTOX® Therapeutic has been used successfully to treat a range of medical conditions for more than ten years. Side effects, if they occur, are temporary and self-limiting.
